Contract A: Current Status
The contractor is working in various locations along Contract A of the ICC. There are haul roads, bridges, culverts, ramps, and stream diversions currently under construction all along the corridor. Clearing of trees and placing fencing along the project limits of disturbance is ongoing. As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping ICC construction traffic from using local roads to cut through the project area, we have placed signs which direct the traffic to approved ICC travel routes.
SHADY GROVE ROAD AREA
On the western portion of the project, the construction of the bridge system that will ultimately connect the ICC to existing I-370 is very visible to the traveling public using Shady Grove Road. Additional activities which are not so visible in this area include the construction of temporary stream diversions (which allows for the culverts to be installed without damage to the stream), the relocation of utilities and the construction of stormwater management facilities.
REDLAND ROAD AREA
Work is also visible adjacent to relocated Redland Road. This roadway was temporarily relocated to the east of its previous location to aid in the construction of the new bridge which will carry Redland Road over the ICC in this area. The contractor needed to relocate traffic so that this structure could be built without taking away the ability for existing traffic to continue using Redland Road throughout the duration of the project. The construction of this bridge will be visible to travelers in the near future.
NEEDWOOD ROAD AREA
There is a field office located on Needwood Road where construction equipment is being stored and where field staff can work. In the very near future, work will begin to shift overhead utilities in this area. This will allow for the construction of the detour road along Needwood (similar to that which is currently adjacent to the original Redland Road) so that the bridge that will carry Needwood Road over the ICC can be built.
EMORY LANE AREA
Travelers may also have observed clearing and construction activity along Emory Lane, between Calvary Drive and Pinetree Roads, adjacent to the bike path. This activity is related to the relocation of some major utilities needed to move forward with construction. Utility relocation work in this area will accommodate the future bridge at Emory Lane that will carry Emory over the ICC. In the coming weeks, work will begin with the construction of the detour road, east of existing Emory Lane. This detour will allow traffic continued use of Emory Lane while the bridge is being constructed.
GEORGIA AVENUE AREA
On the eastern end of Contract A, northbound Georgia Avenue traffic is shifted into the median. Recently, there has been tree clearing in this area to both the east and west of Georgia Avenue. This work will accommodate the future interchange of Georgia Avenue with the ICC.
