Corman Construction has been in continuous operation since 1920 when it was founded as a Washington, D.C. contracting firm, primarily engaged in the construction of city streets and highways. Over the years, Corman, now based in Annapolis Junction, Maryland, has grown into a multi-disciplinary contracting company employing over 400 people, some of whom have been with the company for decades. Over the more than 80 years since its founding, Corman has expanded its work capabilities to include bridge construction and repair, underground utility work, tunnel construction, and marine construction. As its capabilities have grown, its geographical operating area have expanded through the Mid-Atlantic states. This diversification and expansion has been achieved through the development of a dedicated management team with broad expertise in heavy and civil construction. In 2003, Virginia Approach Constructors, a joint venture between Corman Construction and Granite Construction, was awarded the $115 million BR-3B contract for the reconstruction of the Virginia portion of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, scheduled for completion in 2011.  The project scope includes construction of the outer loop substructure and superstructure, demolition of a portion of the existing bridge and construction of the inner loop footings, substructure and superstructure.
