PAYING TO USE THE ICC

The ICC is Maryland’s first variably priced, cashless, all-electronic toll facility. Tolls are used to help manage the congestion on the ICC as well as to help pay for the construction, operation, maintenance costs and debt service of the ICC and other MDTA facilities.

Since the ICC is a cashless facility, there will be no toll booths. All tolls will be collected electronically. The easiest way to pay the toll is to secure an E-ZPass® account. The E-ZPass® system is used across the Northeast as a method for easily collecting tolls and any valid E-ZPass® account will work on the ICC.

Tolls will be collected as vehicles pass under large overhead gantry structures along the ICC routes. These structures capture account information for valid E-ZPass® account holders and charge the toll rate as appropriate. The ICC also has video tolling capability, at a premium, for travelers who do not have a valid E-ZPass®. In such instances, the advanced technology captures the license plate of the vehicle. The toll is then assessed for the vehicle and the registered owner of the vehicle is sent a Notice of Toll Due with the cost of the toll, plus a $3.00 service fee per transaction. If you would like more information on E-ZPass® or would like to create an E-ZPass® account, please go to www.ezpassmd.com.
